1a.Smith, M (2015) Doubling Energy & Resource Productivity by 2030 - Transitioning to a Low Carbon Future through Sustainable Energy and Resource Management (Game Changing Report)
The sustaining organisation supports and sustains the workforce, the community and the natural environment, actively engaging stakeholders in regenerating human and natural capital. It is a regenerative community, characterised by a culture of effectiveness and caring. The strategic focus is on the development of organisational practices that enable the renewal and regeneration of people and the natural environment rather than their short term exploitation. This session critically reviews the link between Education for Sustainability (EfS) and the organisational changes necessary for the emergence of such a culture. Recognising the challenges of achieving the ideal of the sustaining organisation given the dominance of global capitalism, we look to specific features of EfS principles that might be added or enhanced in order to achieve a new definition of wealth as “increased and shared community value”.
